The Law of Attraction has taken center stage in the world of self improvement, over the past few years. The massively successful book “The Secret” further escalated its popularity to unprecedented levels.
If you’re not familiar with the Law of Attraction, here is the Wikipedia definition:
The law of attraction is the name given to the belief that "like attracts like" and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results. This belief is based upon the idea that people and their thoughts are both made from "pure energy", and the belief that like energy attracts like energy.
In a nutshell, the law states that we attract only those people and circumstances into our lives that are on the same wavelength or vibrational frequency as our thoughts and emotions.
Not only is it refreshingly simple, but it also instills a sense of responsibility within us when it comes to choosing what we allow into our internal space. We feel more accountable for the quality of our experiences because we are now aware that it is largely affected by our thoughts and beliefs.
However there is also some negative fallout from this movement. Many people started seeing the Law of Attraction as a magical-like “wish fulfillment” force similar to that of a Genie from a lamp.
The belief that if one focuses on their vision long enough; they will eventually attract that fancy sports car, that dream partner or a villa on an exotic Caribbean Island; can be dangerous. It can result in the abdication of personal responsibility and create a pattern of unhealthy dependency.
We need to be careful of not over-idealizing the magical-like properties of the Law of Attraction and take it for what it is: a useful tool that help us create the reality we desire.
We also need to realize that in addition to focusing on our vision for the future, there are other essential ingredients that need to be added to the manifestation mix.
Firstly, you want to be proactive about taking the necessary action to realize your vision. Deliberate and consistent steps will increase your chances of making it a reality and also attract the right opportunities.
In other words the Law of attraction gets triggered only when you couple your vision with deliberate and focused action. To quote German Philosopher Johann von Goethe on the potency of taking action: “Whatever you do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius power and magic in it!”
Another commonly overlooked requirement when it comes to the manifestation process is the management of our internal power.
Our internal power is determined by our sense of self worth. Our self worth is affected by how we see ourselves and how we allow others to treat us. Here are some common ways by which people tend to give away their power:
- Staying in careers, relationships or in a situation that does not serve your highest purpose and drain your energy.
- Having any form of addiction or attachments to people or objects.
- The constant need seek validation and approval from others
The sad truth is most people are aware that this is happening in their lives but continue to live in a state of denial. They remain stuck and fail to make the changes needed to re-claim their power.
If you find yourself in this position, you need to ask yourself some hard questions about what you want in your life and what you are willing to tolerate.
As potent as the Law of Attraction is, it cannot help you attract all the wonderful things that you want in your life if you are functioning at a low frequency because your sense of personal power is being depleted.
If you want to realize your vision you must focus on creating a life situation that is healthy for you and empowers you in every way. This is an essential step in the manifestation process.
Once you do this, you will be amazed at how quickly your life will unfold in a positive way.
By removing the things and people that drain your spirit, you essentially open yourself up to the abundance, love and beauty that the Universe has to offer.
